Maggie giggled at how Adam answered he question and cheered when she got her icecream. She took a lick. "Mmm, this is really gooood!" she gushed.
She looked around at the tables and that is when she spotted something that she didn't recognize standing beside one of the walls, next to some tables. It was a big glass ball on top of a mechanical thing with a bunch of small different colored balls inside it.
"Oooh, what's that Adam?" she asked, pointing at the machine. She dismounted from Adam's shoulder the same way a person would dismount from a horse, and grabbed Adam's free hand to pull him toward the thing.
Her eyes were wide as she looked at all the smaller ball thingies. "Do you know what they are?" she asked, not taking her eyes away from them.

Adam looked where Maggie was pointing, "Oh that?" he wondered if there were no gumball machines in Vilco Urvas, "That's a gumball machine," he said as the girl jumped off his shoulders. A big, cheshire grin spread across his face as she pulled him toward the machine.
He tried not to chuckle as she studied the gumball machine, "And those are the gumballs. You get them out of the machine by sticking in a quarter, watch," he shuffled around his pockets for a quarter, then stuck the coin in the slot, "And you twist..." he twisted the coin dispenser thing as he said this, "and there's the gumball," he held up the piece of candy for Maggie to see.

Maggie's eyes widened as she looked a the gumball. They had gum in Vilco Urvas of course, but she had never seen a gumball, nor a gumball machine. If someone wanted a piece of gum, they would just unwrap a stick of gum and pop it into their mouths.. these gumballs were terrific and she really wanted the one that Adam was holding.
She wanted the gumball so bad that she was biting on her lip and balled her hand (the one not holding the icecream) into a fist to keep from reaching for it.
"And it's just like regular gum? Or is it kind of like candy?" she asked, looking away from the gumball for only one moment to look at Adam.

Adam felt the biggest urge to move the gumball back and forth to see if Maggie would follow it with her eyes. He didn't do this, though. She was so new to the gumball thing, he thought that he shouldn't be mean just yet.
He could tell that she really wanted the gumball, "It's sort of a mixture. I definitely wouldn't use it to freshen my breath, though," he held the gum out to her, "Here, try it."

"Really, I can have it?" she asked, but before he could even answer her question, Maggie grabbed the gumball. Before she put it in her mouth however, she looked at her icecream. She looked behind her at the counter and spotted a napkin holder. She ran over, grabbed a napkin, and rolled the gumball into the napkin (with one hand) and carried it back over to Adam.
She smiled at him as if saying "Aren't I clever?" and started eatting her icecream.
"So what are Vance and Angela like? Is everyone there as great as you are?" she asked.
